Somerset – Sheriff Recovering After Crash

Posted on Sunday, April 14th, 2019 at 2:00 pm

A Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office deputy is recuperating after suffering grave injuries in a two-vehicle crash.

Deputy Scott West sustained many injuries, including a broken leg. At 10 p.m. Wednesday, West was bound for Ky. 914 while a trailer-truck was headed the opposite direction on Slate Branch Road. That was when 40-year-old Shane Branscum of San Marco Drive crashed his truck head-on to West’s cruiser. Branscum said that he saw West’s headlights but didn’t know it was a sheriff’s deputy’s since the flashing lights were switched off.

After the incident, West was airlifted to University of Kentucky Medical Center for medical attention. However, the hospital did not disclose his condition when they were contacted.

Also, KSP Trooper Seath Whiles said that Branscum’s passenger, 22-year-old Justin Mayfield was sent to the local hospital for treatment of his minor injuries.
