A social services worker was arrested for child abuse at a residence on Jim Arnett Branch Road.
60-year-old Rose Arnett was hitting a child on the head and the wrist to discipline him. This child living in the residence was even locked in his bedroom often. In fact, the child said that he was given only a blue coffee can to defecate in while imprisoned in his room.
Fortunately, the police responded to a social services worker’s request for assistance on Tuesday, April 2. Arnett was arrested and sent to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, charged with a count of first-degree criminal abuse, child 12 or under (Class C Felony). Since then, she has been released, waiting for future court dates.
Magoffin County Schools Superintendent Scott Helton verified that Arnett is the head janitor at Herald Whitaker Middle School for almost 33 years.
