A man was injured after crashing his car and was treated for opioid overdose.

The incident occurred around 9:40 am Thursday on Alben Barkley Drive.

A Jeep driven by 22-year-old Blake A. Weiland was on the median lane when it careened into the far outside lane and side-swiped a dump truck.

Passersby performed CPR on the Jeep driver. When Officer Steve Thompson arrived at the scene, he noticed Weiland was exhibiting signs of a drug overdose, so he gave him two doses of the opioid-overdose antidote Naloxone. Consequently, Weiland regained consciousness and was sent to Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital.

Weiland told Officer Thompson that he took Fentanyl while he was at a fast food restaurant near Paducah Tilghman High School. Also, he said driving at the restaurant was the last thing he recalled doing.

He was cited at the hospital and was charged with DUI.
