Arnett was arrested and sent to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, charged with a count of first-degree criminal abuse, child 12 or under (Class C Felony). Since then, she has been released, waiting for future court dates.

Magoffin County Schools Superintendent Scott Helton verified that Arnett is the head janitor at Herald Whitaker Middle School for almost 33 years.

On Tuesday, a roofing contractor fell through the roof of a school.

Around 5 p.m., 40-year-old Fredy Godoy-Mendoza fell through a gym roof at Waggener High School after stepping on a “weak spot on the roof”, Deputy Coroner Scott Russ said. The drop was approximately 12 feet deep, causing blunt force/closed head injury, and ultimately his death.

Jefferson County Public Schools were observing Spring break this week, so classes were not suspended at Waggener. The Occupational Health and Safety Association is conducting further investigation.
